UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his belt against recent middleweight convert Chael Sonnen on April 27 at UFC 155.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the news to the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. No venue was announced.
“I wonder how the piece of meat was feeling when we bought him the Bentley. That statement right there, drives me insane. A year and a half ago nobody knew who Jon Jones was. Now the kid’s a multi-millionaire and he’s got this, that, you know?
When I see him in Toronto, that’s the first fucking thing we’re going to talk about. Piece of meat? That sounds like something a male supermodel would say” - Dana White on Jon Jones
UFC 151 has been canceled because light-heavyweight contender Dan Henderson has a knee injury and champion Jon Jones declined UFC President Dana White’s request that Jones fight Chael Sonnen in Henderson’s place.
White says he was surprised and disappointed that Jones turned down a fight with Sonnen, forcing the cancellation.
Last week UFC champ Jon Jones announced his newest sponser would be Nike. What should be considered a landmark deal with the mainstream sports world has been marred by Jones’ recent run-in with the law, something not lost on outspoken World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar CM Punk, who blasted the partnership via his Twitter.
“Let’s reward more drunk drivers with endorsement deals! #responsibility”
